Rain still coming, but flooding not expected

Advertiser Staff

Rains are still on the way tonight on Kaua'i and O'ahu, but the chance of flooding is remote, the National Weather Service said.

According to Sam Houston, lead forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Honolulu, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected to reach Kaua'i before midnight tonight. They should arrive on O'ahu sometime before sun-up tomorrow, he said about 10 p.m.

Anytime you have heavy rain like this, there's a chance of flooding, he said. But he said he thinks it's a remote chance.

Earlier, forecaster Jeff Powell said there will be bouts of brief heavy showers and thunderstorms. "At this time we don't think there will be significant flooding," he said this afternoon.

Rains should continue through Monday, but are expected to fade by Tuesday, Powell said. Rains could return by the end of the week, he said.
