A 57-year-old man was critically injured this morning after he was ejected from his silver Harley-Davidson motorcycle near the entrance of the Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor.
Police said the cyclist was leaving the harbor and turning east on Malakole Street shortly before 3 a.m. when he veered to the left, unimproved gravel shoulder of the road and collided with a concrete piling barrier about 485 feet west of Kaiholo Street.
The cyclist lost control of the vehicle, which flipped over, throwing him, police said. Witnesses told police that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The man was transported to a Honolulu trauma center with severe head injuries, police said. Speed was apparently not a factor in the collision, police said. It was not known whether alcohol was a factor, they said.
