Police arrested a 31-year-old Waipahu man this afternoon in connection with a Dec. 29 traffic accident that killed a motorcyclist.
Siaosi Feleunga was arrested on suspicion of second-degree negligent homicide, failure to render aid and four contempt warrants. He remained in police custody tonight pending charges.
Feleunga is suspected of being the driver of a pickup truck that cut in front of Lindsay Kane, 47, while he was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Farrington Highway near Aniani Place in Waipahu.
Police said the truck was in the left lane and made an abrupt right turn into a Chevron gas station, causing Kane to lose control of his motorcycle about 3:20 p.m.
Kane's motorcycle crashed and he suffered critical injuries. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died that night.
The driver of the truck did not stop to help Kane and fled.
Police released a surveillance photo of the teal-colored pickup truck, which was found on Leonui Street in Waipahu on Dec. 30. Police were not able to track down the registered owner of the vehicle, however.
Acting on a tip today, members of the Pearl City police Crime Reduction Unit went to a residential construction site in Makakilo where Feleunga was working on a rock wall. He initially was arrested at 4:21 p.m. on the contempt warrants and later booked at the Pearl City police substation in connection with the fatal accident.
