Two Borders Express stores on Maui are slated to close on Jan. 24.
The stores at Lahaina Cannery Mall and Whalers Village are sites of former Waldenbooks stores converted to the Borders brand in 2004. Borders and Waldenbooks had been jointly owned since 1992, though Borders previously closed underperforming Waldenbooks stores and converted the others to Borders Express.
Bonnie Schmick, a spokeswoman for Michigan-based Borders Group, said no other Borders stores in Hawai'i are slated for closure.
