A child was taken to a local trauma center in serious condition today after he was backed over by a vehicle on Kamehameha Highway in Laie, according to Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.

The accident occurred just after 12:30 p.m.

The boy is believed to be under 5 years of age, Cheplic said.
