Volunteers sought to help at Koke'e Stream

The YMCA of Kaua'i is seeking volunteers for a Koke'e Stream restoration project March 5 to 7, and to establish a rainforest native plant garden on the YMCA grounds.

Volunteers can receive free lodging and food in return for their services on a first-come, first-serve basis.

On March 8, there will be a festival including live music, cultural crafts booths, food booths, community information booths, a silent auction, bouncers and slides for children and demonstrations/workshops by local horticulturists and other watershed/botanical experts.

Stream project volunteers should bring gardening gloves, boots and eye protection, as well as small tools such as rakes, shovels, loppers, chainsaws and weedeaters (gas and oil will be provided).

Volunteers for the workdays, as well as groups interested in having a booth, musicians or halau interested in performing, and people who want to donate goods/services to the silent auction or donate money should contact Erik Coopersmith, YWCA of Kaua'i, Camp Sloggett site manager, at 808-335-0710 or erik@islandunderground.net.
