BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo police say a basketball coach who led the Cameroon national team in the Olympic qualifying tournament last year has been arrested on charges of beating his 4-year-old son with a belt.
Lazare Adingono is an assistant men's coach at Canisius College. His biography says he was Cameroon's head coach for Olympic qualifying last summer.
Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge says Adingono (ah-DING-goh-noh) was arrested Feb. 10 on a felony charge of second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. The Erie County district attorney's office is investigating.
Canisius spokeswoman Ellen Conley declined comment, except to say the school is aware of Adingono's arrest. He remains on the coaching staff.
