Boys & Girls Club wins $10,000 tennis grant
USTA Serves has awarded a $10,000 "Aces for Kids" grant to the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island.
USTA Serves is the charitable arm of the USTA, the national governing body for the sport of tennis in America. Its "Aces for Kids" program promotes healthy lifestyles by providing underserved, at-risk children the opportunity to learn to play tennis and improve their academic skills in a structured format, according to a news release.
At program sites, children between the ages of 5 and 18 learn about healthy nutrition and lifestyles, study skills, and computer literacy; interact with mentors and other students; attend college preparatory sessions; and learn to play tennis in a team format.
The Big Island grant was one of 58 awarded nationally.
