Fat Tuesday parties are legendary at this Nu'uanu Avenue block party. The Honolulu Culture & Arts District's Mardi Gras — Carnaval 2009 is a spectacle like few others. Entertainers, as well as partygoers, dress up to bring a taste of New Orleans' infamous Bourbon Street to Downtown/Chinatown. The event features music, food, drinks and two parades — one at 7 p.m. with the Axe Batucada & Dance Ensemble — and at 9 p.m. with the Tropikalia Batucada & Dance Ensemble. Since beating out thousands to be part of the Final Five on NBC's "Last Comic Standing 2," comedian Tammy Pescatelli's current schedule is jam-packed, but she'll be here to do one show in Honolulu. She's a three-time Addie Award winner, two-time Cleo nominee and was recently named winner of the Bud Light Ladies of Laughter competition.

The 'Iolani School Performing Arts Department will stage the Stephen Schwartz musical "Pippin." This story is based on the life of Pippin the Hunchback, son of Emperor Charlemagne. It's a production of music and dance, and it turns out to be a journey of self-discovery.

Presented by the Army Community Theatre, the musical comedy whodunit "Curtains" is making its Hawai'i debut at Richardson Theatre. It's a story of a police lieutenant who arrives at Boston's Colonial Theatre in 1959 to investigate the death of the leading lady, then gets drawn into making a hit show as he solves the murder.
