If it's not one thing, it's another.

While heavy rain on parts of Oahu led the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory for the island today, the possibility of high winds across the state through the weekend quickly took precedence.

The flood advisory was canceled shortly after noon, but the weather service now is warning residents statewide that a high wind watch will be in effect starting tomorrow night and lasting through Sunday.

High pressure building to the north of the Islands will produce very strong trade winds starting tomorrow evening, the weather service said.

Wind speeds are expected to begin increasing overnight and reach sustained speeds of 25 mph or more by noon tomorrow in Honolulu and parts of Kauai and Maui. Wind speeds are expected to continue increasing until late Saturday afternoon before easing. Kahului, Maui, is forecast to receive the heaviest sustained winds, 34 mph on Saturday afternoon.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at last 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or stronger, may occur.
