INNSBRUCK, Austria — Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht has woken up from the induced coma he was put in after crashing in downhill training three weeks ago.
The hospital where Albrecht is being treated says his condition has improved significantly over the past 24 hours.
In a statement Thursday, the Innsbruck University hospital said Albrecht is breathing well on his own, and that doctors decided to remove the respiration tube.
The hospital will reveal more details at a news conference Friday.
The 25-year-old Albrecht had been kept unconscious with brain and lung injuries following his World Cup downhill training crash in Kitzbuehel, Austria, on Jan. 22.
