The Local Motion/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving State Championships will be held this weekend at the Veterans' Memorial Aquatic Center in Waipi'o.

Trials start Friday with the 1-meter dive at 9 a.m. and swimming events at 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, semifinals and finals for the 1-meter dive start at 8:30 a.m. Swimming finals start at 1 p.m.

Punahou's Christel Simms (100-yard fly and 100 back), who competed at last year's Olympics for the Philippines, and Rachel Fujita (50 free and 100 free) are seeded first in two events. Seabury Hall's Libby Matthews (200 individual medley and 100 breast) is also a top seed in two events.

Freshmen Kacy Johnson of 'Iolani (200 IM and 500 free) and Daren Choi of Pearl City (100 free and 100 back) are the only boys seeded first in multiple events.

Since 1958, the Punahou girls have won 44 state team titles and the Punahou boys have won 41. The Buffanblu girls are three-time defending champions while the boys won the last two.
