Ethical chocolate: double the pleasure
| |||
The Food Channel's Web site (www.foodchannel.com) is featuring chocolate that foodies can feel good about: chocolate grown by farmers who are paid beyond the standard fair-trade rate and given a stake in what they grow.
Independent chocolate maker Shawn Askinosie of Askinosie Chocolates in Springfield, Mo., is featured on the site discussing his work with farmers in Ecuador and Mexico, who are paid 10 percent of net profits above the norm. And Askinosie also shares his recipes for chocolate goodies.
Food Network editors additionally offer editorial reviews of organic and ethical chocolate choices (www.foodchannel.com/stories/1159-serving-up-organic-and-ethical-chocolatechoices).
