Four rescue watercraft were also blessed. The new trucks feature a fire suppressant foam that will more efficiently put out fires while using less water.

The Honolulu Fire Department this morning unveiled state-of-the-art firefighting equipment, including seven pumper trucks that deliver fire-suppressant foam.

"The (Compressed Air Foam System) represents a giant leap forward in firefighting," Chief Kenneth Silva said. "The system allows us to put out fires faster and use less water. This makes conditions safer for firefighters and saves property by reducing water and heat damage."

The trucks — 2009 Pierce Quantum pumpers — will be assigned to the Central, McCully-Moiliili, Mokulele, Nanakuli, Wahiawa and Waikele stations.

The city also bought four 2008 Wave Runner watercraft for use by ocean rescue teams.
