MLB: Giants, RHP Ramon Ortiz agree to minor league deal

SAN FRANCISCO — Ramon Ortiz agreed to a minor league contract Tuesday with the San Francisco Giants, getting an invitation to spring training after spending last season in Japan.
Ortiz is 84-80 with 210 starts in nine big league seasons, most recently with Minnesota and Colorado in 2007. He spent his first six seasons with the Angels, winning 16 games in 2003.
He went 4-7 for the Orix Buffaloes in Japan last year, but was the MVP of the recent Caribbean Series while pitching for a club from his native Dominican Republic.
The Giants expect Ortiz to compete for a spot in their bullpen when spring training opens this weekend.
