Cross cultures converge on the Bishop Museum's Great Lawn tomorrow to celebrate "The Way to the Heart: Changing Food, Foodways, and Culture," the theme of the 9th Annual Pukui Performing Arts Festival.

Storytellers from Alaska, Mississippi, Massachusetts and Hawai'i will share their native cultures through the ancient art valued by the festival's namesake, Mary Kawena Pukui, a revered Hawaiian scholar and linguist who worked at the museum for more than 50 years to preserve the chants, texts, oral histories and ethnographic data she collected.

The festival also includes dance, including hula halau and a special performance led by Tau Dance Theatre artistic director Peter Rockford Espiritu.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a special $3 admission rate for kama'aina and military and free admission for children younger than 3 and Bishop Museum members.
