The National Weather Service has dropped a high-surf advisory for Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

"Surf along (north-facing) shores has dropped below 15 feet, so the advisory has been canceled ..., " the weather service says on its Web site. "A larger (northwest) swell is still due mid week and may push combined sea heights in the coastal zones up to small craft advisory levels."
Meanwhile, southerly winds and low clouds are increasing this morning over the smaller islands as a weak front approaches from the northwest.
The weather service says showers will increase over Kauai and Oahu today and scattered showers will remain into tomorrow.
Light winds return tomorrow with hazy conditions prevailing through New Year’s Eve.
