Several state parks closing early on New Year's Eve
The Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the entrance gate to Pu'u 'Ualaka'a (Round Top) State Park in Makiki at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
"We are closing the park early to discourage use of fireworks, which is prohibited in state parks, and to protect the public and natural resources of the area," said DLNR chairwoman Laura H. Thielen.
The park will resume normal hours on Jan. 1, opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 6:45 p.m.
The state also is closing Häpuna Beach State Recreation Area and Kekaha Kai State Park on the Big Island at 5:30 p.m. The parks usually are open until 8 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
