Hawai'i golf's Ho'olaule'a Awards will be celebrated Jan. 15 at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

The second annual event honors the state's premier golfers, from age 7 to seniors, amateurs to pros, and leaders from the industry. This year it will also include the Hawai'i Golf Hall of Fame Induction, where the late Dennis Rose will be honored.

Hal Okita will be given the Distinguished Service Award for his long dedication to the game. Others who will be honored include Lorens Chan, Kristina Merkle, Ryan Perez, Diane Plotts, Matt Hall, Scott Ashworth and Mary Bea Porter-King.

SBS CHAMPIONSHIP TO OPEN AT KAPALUA

Same place, different name.

Kapalua is again home to the start of the PGA Tour season. The SBS Championship (formerly Mercedes-Benz Championship) will be Jan. 7 to 10 at Kapalua's Plantation Course.

The field is made up of winners from this year. The limited field of approximately 34 golfers plays for $5.6 million.

Among those expected to play are defending champion Geoff Ogilvie, Sony Open in Hawai'i champ Zach Johnson, Y.E. Yang, Kenny Perry, Jerry Kelly, Steve Stricker and Stephen Ames.

Tickets are available at a discount through Jan. 3. "Any Day" tickets good for Jan. 6, 7 or 8 (Pro-Am, first or second round) are $15 and go up to $20 when purchased at the gate. "Any Day" tickets for the weekend are $20, $30 at the gate.

A season pass for the week is $55 ($80 at the gate), practice round tickets for Monday and Tuesday are $15 ($20), as are tickets for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The final two rounds are $20 daily, $30 at the gate.

Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

All four rounds will be shown on The Golf Channel.

NOTES

Maui's Pukalani Country Club will be featured on the "Destination Golf" show on The Golf Channel, starting Saturday. The show will be repeated through Jan. 24.
