KAPOLEI — The recipient of two great crosses, Andrew Momohara converted on both.

Momohara scored twice to lead Mililani High School to a 3-0 win over Kapolei in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West boys soccer match last night.

"We just passed it around a lot and played our game," Momohara said. "We found our target players."

Momohara's first goal came in the 19th minute after he one-touched a pass from the left that rolled into the goal. His second goal came in the 45th minute after Robby Uemoto beat several defenders to make a cross from the left of the goal to Momohara, who was in the center of the 18-yard box. His shot bounced into the goal.

John Cunningham scored in the 56th minute for Mililani. The Trojans are 3-0-0 with victories over Kapolei and Pearl City, two of the division's tougher teams.

"We're pretty good but I'm pretty sure we can get way better," Momohara said. "We can step it up."

Kapolei (0-1-3) had several opportunities, including one in the 20th when the Mililani goalkeeper could not handle the ball in the box. But Elijah Tagura's shot from the left of the box went over the goal. Two free kicks later went over the goal in the first half.

Kapolei had a great opportunity a minute in the second half when Dennis Fuerst sent a shot towards the goal. Tagura charged towards the goal but missed the ball as it came across the goal.

MILILANI GIRLS WIN

Mililani shutout Kapolei, 2-0, in an OIA West girls match. The Trojans (6-0-0) have yet to yield a goal in league play.

"Our defense is pretty composed and I give them credit for that," Mililani coach Ray Akiona said. "They're very calm, very organized."

Mari Miyashiro scored in the fifth minute after receiving a cross from T.J. Reyno. Miyashiro's initial shot attempt went wide left of the goal, but Reyno saved it and sent it back to Miyashiro.

"I saw the ball (going) out and I ran fast to the ball to see if it was going out," said Reyno, a freshman who scored in the 61st minute off a cross from Sasha Moscatello. "It didn't and I crossed it back to Mari."

The Hurricanes (4-1-1) had their first shot on goal early in the second half, then later could not convert on several opportunities.
