NCAA accuses Arizona State baseball team of rules violations

PHOENIX — The National Collegiate Athletic Association accuses Arizona State University's baseball team of violating rules and failing to control the baseball program.
The Arizona Republic reports a "notice of allegations" was sent to university officials on Nov. 19, the day before university officials abruptly forced out baseball coach Pat Murphy.
A portion of the notice accuses ASU of at least nine violations. A key one is that the university lacks "institutional control."
The notice refers to infractions involving telephone-recruiting violations, impermissible coaching activities, employment of student athletes and relationships with outside contractors.
ASU President Michael Crow and Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love declined to comment.
Murphy also declined comment on advice of counsel.
