Homeless woman says her belongings were set on fire

The belongings of a homeless woman who lives near a bus stop on Hotel Street were set afire early yesterday but she was not injured.

The woman, who asked that her name not be used because she is homeless, lives on the sidewalk fronting the District Court building on Hotel near Richards Street.

The woman said she awoke at 12:30 a.m. yesterday and some of her carts were on fire. She also said she could smell gasoline.

She was able to extinguish the flames herself and was not injured. Police arrived, investigated the scene and took photographs.
