North Shore beaches closed to swimmers

Advertiser Staff

The surf on the North Shore may have dropped to about 18 feet to 20 feet but lifeguards are still closing all North Shore beaches today to swimmers as a precaution.

Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the surf is still dangerously large and he urged even professional surfers to consult with a lifeguard regarding ocean conditions before heading into the water.
Cheplic also warned beachgoers at Three Tables and Shark’s Cove to not cross the caution tape or climb on the rocks. Caution tape is also up at Ke Iki to warn people about the dangerous shorebreak.
A high-surf warning is in effect until 6 p.m. tonight for north- and west-facing shores of Oahu.
