Washington state woman dies while swimming off Maui

Police said a 66-year-old Federal Way, Wash., woman died after she was heard calling for help while swimming in the ocean off Ka�anapali on Saturday night.
The woman had gone into the ocean alone in the area fronting the Aston Maui Ka�anapali Villas after 6:30 p.m., said police Capt. Charles Hirata, commander of the Lahaina Patrol District.
He said that someone heard the woman yelling for help in an area where there is a strong current.
After she was found on shore, efforts were made to revive her, Hirata said.
The woman was pronounced dead at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
