Surfer injured in waves off Diamond Head

An injured surfer who appeared to be in his early to mid-50s was brought to shore yesterday morning by city lifeguards after apparently being hit in the head by a surfboard in waters off the beach below Diamond Head
.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were sent to a surfing spot known as “Lighthouse” at 10:27 a.m. and treated the man for near-drowning before transporting him to the trauma center in serious condition.
Wave faces at the time of the incident were estimated at 3 to 4 feet, Cheplic said.
