The state Department of Transportation has canceled tonight�s road closure of Kalanianaole Highway in Makapuu because equipment problems.

The state Sunday began the nighttime closure of the highway for much-needed retaining wall work between the Makapuu Lookout parking lot and the Makapuu Beach Park parking entrance. The $7.8 million project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2010.
The night work will resume tomorrow from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Friday. Construction was set to be halted Friday and resume in January, but the state said work will be held from 9:30 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area.
