Oceanographer, big-wave surfer Ricky Grigg at Chinatown Boardroom tonight

Chinatown Boardroom hosts Ricky Grigg as the speaker for this month�s Surf Discussion Series, which coincides with the Chinatown Arts District Third Thursday events.
The free event takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 today at the Chinatown Boardroom, an art gallery and board shop, 1160 Nuuanu Ave., Honolulu.
Grigg�s life has been one of adventure, from big-wave surfing to deep-sea diving and oceanography, a marriage of sports and science.
In the 1960s Grigg was known as one of the best big-wave surfers of the era, and in 1967 Surfer Magazine rated him No.1 in the world. He won the Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championship in 1966 and 1968.
Grigg earned a Ph.D. from Scripps Institute of Oceanography and became a professor at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. He has authored a number of books about surfing, science and the ocean.
At the Surf Discussion event, Grigg will discuss �Environmental Fallacies� � misconceptions about the state of the ocean environment, in particular, and he will be available for a book signing.
