BALTIMORE — Torii Hunter celebrated his return from the disabled list by driving in the go-ahead run in a nine-run 13th inning, and the Los Angeles Angels outlasted the Baltimore Orioles, 17-8, yesterday.

Chone Figgins had four hits for the Angels, including the 1,000th of his career — an RBI single in the sixth inning. Los Angeles' leadoff hitter scored three runs and drove in three.

After missing 32 games with a groin injury, Hunter had two hits and two RBIs in his first action since July 7. He lined into a double play with the bases loaded in the 11th but hit a bases-loaded single up the middle in the 13th off Brian Bass (5-3).

"The last time, I just wanted to put the ball somewhere safe and get the run home," Hunter said.

Baltimore closed to 8-7 in the eighth when Matt Wieters ended an 0-for-16 skid by Orioles pinch hitters with an RBI single, and Baltimore pulled even in the ninth against closer Brian Fuentes. Brian Roberts led off with a double, stole third and scored on a fly ball by Adam Jones.

"I don't know what more they could have done to try to win the game," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said.

RANGERS 4, RED SOX 3:

Ian Kinsler homered and drove in two runs, Dustin Nippert (4-1) gave up two runs, six hits in six innings and host Texas won two of three and passed Boston in the AL wild-card race.

Jose Lopez had three hits and three RBIs and host Seattle beat the Yankees, ending New York's five-game winning streak and handing Joba Chamberlain (8-3) his first loss in two months.

ROYALS 3, TIGERS 2, 10 INNINGS:

Josh Anderson scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning on third baseman Ryan Raburn's third error of the game as Kansas City avoided a three-game sweep at Detroit.

RAYS 5, BLUE JAYS 2:

Gregg Zaun had a pinch-hit grand slam — the fifth grand slam of his career — in the eighth inning as host Tampa Bay won two of three from Toronto.

INDIANS 7, TWINS 4:

Kelly Shoppach and Luis Valbuena hit back-to-back homers, and Grady Sizemore added a two-run shot in a six-run third inning as Cleveland won two of three at Minnesota.

ATHLETICS 3, WHITE SOX 2:

Mark Ellis lined a homer just over the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning and host Oakland avoided a three-game sweep with a win over Chicago.
