MILILANI — A 25-year-old woman was in serious condition with multiple stab wounds last night and police were looking for her ex-boyfriend in connection with the attack.
The incident occurred just after 2:45 p.m. at the woman's residence in the Valleyview building within the Melemanu Woodlands complex on Waikalani Place.
HPD's Criminal Investigations Division said the search for the suspect continued into the night and no other details were available.
Security guard Edward McKinnen said he got an emergency call around 2:50 p.m. When he arrived at the second-floor apartment, he saw the victim lying on the walkway with stab wounds to her sides and arms, with friends surrounding her.
"The other girls were screaming 'Stay with us. Don't die,' " McKinnen said.
The woman was taken in serious condition to The Queen's Medical Center.
McKinnen said the victim recently had moved into the apartment.
Some two hours after the attack, police tape surrounded the apartment entrance, broken glass lay on the walkway in front and police technicians were gathering evidence.
McKinnen said he saw the victim and the suspect in a group with four other women and a man earlier in the day.
Witnesses told McKinnen that the suspect later got into an argument with the victim, repeatedly ordering her to "give him her stuff."
According to McKinnen, a physical altercation apparently ensued in which the rest of the group tried to shove the suspect out the door of the apartment. Witnesses told McKinnen that the suspect stabbed the victim in the doorway before fleeing.
Neighbors helped stanch the wounds until police and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived.
McKinnen said that soon after police arrived he received a report from a tenant in an adjacent building that the suspect had jumped a fence and was headed toward a wooded area nearby. McKinnen relayed the information to police, who initiated a pursuit.
A police report on the incident described the suspect as the woman's former boyfriend, and indicated he is 28 years old.
McKinnen described the suspect, whom he had seen visiting the victim on previous occasions, as an African-American man approximately 5 feet 8 and 250 pounds.
McKinnen said he saw police recover a green, military-style knife in a grassy area near the apartment.
The suspect is wanted for investigation of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary.
