The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will have at least two of its games from the inaugural Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic televised nationally in December.

The Rainbow Warriors will host College of Charleston on the opening night of the tournament, Dec. 22. That game will be televised on ESPNU.

If Hawai'i wins that game, its next two games will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

The schedule for the three-day, eight-team tournament was announced yesterday.

The schedule for Dec. 22: Northeastern vs. Saint Mary's, 10 a.m.; Western Michigan vs. USC, noon; SMU vs. UNLV, 5:30 p.m.; Hawai'i vs. Charleston, 7:30 p.m.

The Rainbow Warriors finished with a 13-17 record last season. Three of the top scorers are returning: Roderick Flemings (16.6 points per game), Bill Amis (10.7) and Petras Balocka (8.7).

Charleston has three starters returning from last season's 27-9 team, including all-conference guard Andrew Goudelock. He was one of the nation's top 3-point shooters last season with 95 made from beyond the arc.

Charleston advanced to the second round of the College Basketball Invitational last season, and is coached by former Georgia Tech head coach Bobby Cremins.

If Hawai'i wins its opener, it will play the winner of the SMU/UNLV game at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23. If Hawai'i loses its opener, it will play the loser of the SMU/UNLV game at 9 p.m. on Dec. 23.

The final day of the tournament will be Dec. 25, with the championship game at 4:30 p.m.

Ten of the 12 games in the Diamond Head Classic will be televised on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. All of the games will be played in the Stan Sheriff Center.

There will be no tournament games Dec. 24 due to the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl football game.

MAUI INVITATIONAL RELEASES TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

A first-round matchup between national powers Arizona and Wisconsin will highlight the opening day of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The schedule for the three-day, eight-team tournament was announced yesterday.

Chaminade, the host school, will play Maryland on the opening day. Maryland has one of the top point guards in the nation in Greivis Vasquez.

The opening day schedule on Nov. 23: Colorado vs. Gonzaga, 10 a.m.; Cincinnati vs. Vanderbilt, 12:30 p.m.; Chaminade vs. Maryland, 4:30 p.m.; Arizona vs. Wisconsin, 7 p.m.

The tournament will continue on Nov. 24 and 25.

All games will be played at the Lahaina Civic Center. All 12 games in the tournament will be televised on one of the ESPN stations (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU).
