Lifeguards rescue swimmers in distress at Spitting Caves
City lifeguards yesterday rescued two men swimming at Spitting Caves near Portlock.
A 911 call was made about 12:30 p.m. that two swimmers were in distress. Lifeguards on a personal water craft responded from Sandy Beach and were at Spitting Caves four minutes later.
Lifeguards were able to retrieve both men and take them to the Maunalua Bay boat ramp. One refused treatment and the other was treated at the scene for minor injuries, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services.
Officials warn that Spitting Caves is dangerous and they recommend against entering the area.
