Hawaii pool owners to be surveyed

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The state has teamed up with the Swimming Pool Association of Hawaii to conduct a survey of private pool owners beginning this month.

The purpose of the survey is to determine safety issues and concerns centered around home swimming pools and spas.
The Department of Health and the association will survey about 1,380 swimming pool and spa owners and clients of the association.
The department said Tuesday that the survey is part of the groundwork being done for a federally funded campaign to educate pool owners about safety issues.
Health officials say each year in the U.S., nearly 300 children under the age of 5 drown in residential and public pools and spas.
