Shark warning signs will not be posted today along Papailoa Beach near Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said lifeguards were at the beach this morning, checked surrounding ocean waters and saw no indication that a shark or sharks may be present.
Shark warning signs were posted yesterday after beachgoers reported a shark more than 8 feet long eating a turtle in a near-shore area about 11:30 a.m.
Lifeguards found no shark, but did find a turtle that appeared to have been bitten by one.
The shark warning signs were removed from the area yesterday afternoon.
