Kim finishes third in Ohio

Hilo's Kimberly Kim faded in the final round to finish third yesterday at the 34th Junior PGA Championship in Maineville, Ohio. Kim shot a final-round 76 at TPC River's Bend to finish 13 back of Alexis Thompson.
Thompson, 14, from Florida, has now won this title twice. She had a final-round 67 and finished at 16-under 288. Runner-up Sarah Brown was 12 strokes back as Thompson came within one of tying the record for largest margin of victory.
Kim, who spent her high school years in Arizona and will play for the University of Denver this fall, came into the final round four shots off the lead. Kyung Kim, who moved from Maui to Arizona for high school, finished at 75-301.
T.J. Vogel, also from Florida, won the boys' title with a score of 66-272 — one off the tournament record. Vogel is headed to USC in the fall. Kane'ohe's Alika Bell (71-293) finished 20th.
The girls played the course at 6,405 yards and the boys 7,215.
At the Optimist International Junior Championships for boys and girls ages 16 to 18, Punahou senior Bradley Shigezawa fired a second straight 72 and is in ninth place, eight shots off the lead. The tournament is being played at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. There is a cut after today's third round and the final round is tomorrow.
Honolulu's Brian Lee jumped up to 25th with a 68 — 12 shots better than his first-round score. Waipahu's Christian Agosto (71-150) is in 34th, followed by Honolulu's Brett Komoto (78-161).
In the girls division, Mililani's Kristen Sawada shot another 82 and is tied for 41st, 20 shots out of first. Ho-nolulu's Michelle Chen is at 88-170.
BASEBALL
MILILANI WINS OPENER
Tanner Tokunaga drove in three runs, Rayson Romero scored three times and Mililani routed Bergen Beach, N.Y., 12-2, yesterday at the P.O.N.Y. Pony 13 World Series at Chino Hills, Calif.
Jimmy Madrid and Tokunaga pitched for Mililani (1-0), which scored six runs in the first inning.
Mililani will face Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico (1-0) today at 2 p.m. (Hawai'i time).
WINDWARD PONY ROLLS
Windward's bats went wild yesterday in winning two games at the P.O.N.Y. Bronco (ages 11-12) West Zone Tournament at Whittier, Calif.
In the first game, Corey Nakakura homered and drove in four runs, and Dane Kamalu drove in three more in Windward's 18-8 win over Chandler, Ariz.
In the second game, Ryder Kuhns and Nakakura combined on a two hitter in Windward's 15-1 win over Whittier.
Kapono Lucas and Nakakura both drove in three runs.
Windward (2-1) will play today at 7 a.m. (Hawai'i time).
HILO PONY ROUTED, 12-1
Hilo got off to a rough start yesterday at the P.O.N.Y. Pony (ages 13-14) West Zone Tournament at Fullerton, Calif., losing to Riverside, Calif., 12-1,
Korin Medeiros drove in Hilo's lone run with a single in the third.
Hilo (0-1) will play Bellingham, Wash., today at 7 a.m. (Hawai'i time).
LIHU'E MUSTANG DROPS TWO
Lihu'e was eliminated from the P.ON.Y. Mustang (ages 9-10) West Zone Tournament after dropping a pair of games yesterday at Chino Hills, Calif.
Lihu'e (1-2) fell to Fountain Valley, Calif., 13-3, in the first game.
In the second, Lihu'e lost to Tara Hills, Calif., 13-3.
SHOCKERS WIN PAIR
Hawai'i's Shockers won a pair of games yesterday at the Cal Ripken Majors (ages 11-12) Pacific Southwest Regional at Bakersfield, Calif.
In the first game, Heisman Hosoda homered and drove in four runs, and Kaleb Vutnoski and Riki Kobayashi each drove in two runs in the Shockers, 17-3 victory over Fallon, Nev.
Bronson Ichimura pitched a four-hitter for the Shockers and Joshua Inaba homered.
In the second game, Hosoda, Riki Kobayashi and Vutnoski combined on a two-hitter in the Shockers 5-0 victory over Elks Grove, Calif. Vutnoski drove in two runs.
