Join us as we travel on the PGA Tour with Parker McLachlin, a former Punahou athlete. McLachlin and Castle alum Dean Wilson are the only Hawai'i golfers on the PGA Tour. McLachlin, Waikoloa's touring pro, will write his impressions on events that he has just completed and tournaments that are coming up on his calendar.
Hello from beautiful Charlotte, N.C. and the Quail Hollow Championship.
Many of you know from reading my reports from previous years that this is one of my favorite stops of the season. The golf course is a great test, is in great shape and the fans in the Charlotte area are some of the best in the country.
Last week in New Orleans some of you got to see some of the progress I've been talking about and it was nice to see a lot of the hard work I've put in pay off during tournament play. Through two rounds I was T4 and feeling very confident and excited about the weekend. Unfortunately, my back got a bit tight and locked up a bit on Saturday during the round. It was disappointing to have a tough day, but especially when it was caused by something out of my control. I pulled it back together and had an even-par Sunday for my first check since February!
Kristy and I had a blast off the golf course as we normally do in the Big Easy. I played in the Pro-Am with world famous Emeril and got invited to his restaurant for a private dinner. I say it all the time, but it's so nice to have things distract us from the golf during the week.
I've talked at length about the process of changing my golf swing and that's exactly what it is, a process. I've seen glimpses of positive benefits on the range, during brief stretches in tournaments, but in New Orleans it came together for consecutive rounds and days which was a lot of fun to see.
I've kept the momentum going this week with some good work with Sean Foley and it was fun to play a practice round with some of Sean's other clients Tuesday (Sean O'Hair and Hunter Mahan). I've really enjoyed picking their brains about some of the trials and tribulations of working through these adjustments.
I'm feeling great about the week here in Charlotte. As I mentioned, I love the golf course, the fans bring great energy to each hole each day and it's just an awesome environment to be in. The event treats us well and all of those things add up to an incredible field including you know who.
Thanks for checking in and I'll chat with you all from The Players next week!
Aloha,
Parker
