Salsa Hawaii's Sanchez busy with nuptials, new CD

Rolando Sanchez, leader of Salsa Hawaii (this town's leading Latino act), will tie the knot with Wanda Ching, a Bank of Hawaii vice president, on June 27 in Napa's Silverado Resort. The celebration includes a wine tasting and tour at Domaine Carneros.

A reception for Honolulu pals will be held July 5 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel, with a family fiesta in Nicaragua (Sanchez's birthplace) in September. ...

Salsa Hawaii's sound has been heard on MTV and one tune, "Ya Me Enamore," is background music on Jeffrey Donovan's USA series "Burn Notice" (the "Wanted Man" episode). And yep, that's Sanchez's voice and music in broadcast spots for Cholo's, the Mexican restaurant in Hale'iwa. ...

Sanchez is working on a new CD with Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning producer-engineer Dave Tucciaroni and will headline the Cinco de Mayo festivities from 5 to 8 p.m. May 5 at Gordon Biersch at Aloha Tower Marketplace. ..

CLUBLICITY: Troy Fernandez is the Sunday trouper at Kani Ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, with backup from Keao Low of Touch of Gold and Mike Seda of Simplicity. Because Fernandez's latest Mountain Apple Co. CD is dubbed "Ride Time," the act is also Ride Time. Hear 'em from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today and two more Sundays. ...

Hawaiian music prevails, from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, at Thai Sweet Basil restaurant at Manoa Marketplace. When Michael Paulo and Ed Nishioka staged the recent jazz blast with Deniece Williams and Ray Parker Jr. at the Royal Hawaiian Center Showroom, one of the "moments" was Parker's "Ghostbusters" hit, with costumed 'busters shooting Silly String into the audience. FINALLY: Manoa DNA is off to Seattle for a University of Washington lu'au, then will jet to Japan Wednesday for Hawai'i Tourism Japan shows in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Osaka. On a sad note, Lloyd Kawakami, the dad in DNA with sons Nick and Alex, just lost his father, Keiji Kawakami, 90. "We go with heavy hearts," he said. Condolences to the 'ohana. ...
