Brother Noland will perform today at the Mission Houses Museum's "Family Day: Around the World with ABCs."
Noland is known for edgy songwriting and vocals that appeal to all generations and will perform selections from his recently released CD "Hawaiian Man," along with classics.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the music comes midday.
The event is being held in conjunction with the "Alphabet Soup: Literacy, Language and Learning" exhibit, which features an 1822 school primer, an early Hawaiian Bible and more than 60 other cultural objects.
Storyteller Jeff Gere and children's author and illustrator Tammy Yee will also be at the event, along with international students from the University of Hawai'i, who will showcase alphabets from around the world.
In addition, hands-on activities for the entire family will include papermarbling techniques for bookmaking, writing with slate pencils, and pen and ink writing. In addition, demonstrations of the museum's 19th-century printing press will be available throughout the day, along with viewings of the period rooms.
