Advertiser Staff
Olympian Clarissa Chun, a Roosevelt High alum, will compete for the U.S. in the Pan American Championships at Maracaibo, Venezuela, today through Saturday.
Chun, of Kapolei, will compete in the women's freestyle at 105.5 pounds (48kg).
Chun won gold medals at the 2008 Women's World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, and the 2009 U.S. Championships earlier this month in Las Vegas. Her victory at the nationals earned her the No. 1 seed in the U.S. World Team Trials on May 30-31 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The top seven finishers in each weight class will qualify for the World Team Trials, and the seven champions will advance to September's World Championships in Denmark.
The U.S. teams were selected based upon results from the nationals, where the champion had first opportunity to compete, with the following place-winners invited until the position was filled.
