Blaze at timeshare complex causes $900,000 in damage

Fire yesterday at the Poipu Kai timeshare building caused an estimated $900,000 in damage, Kaua'i County reported.

Ten firefighters responded to the 11 a.m. alarm at the Manualoha complex. They had the fire under control at 11:37 and the fire was extinguished at 12:58 p.m.

The lower level of a two-bedroom, two-story unit was destroyed, and the upper level of that unit sustained smoke and water damage.

The unit below sustained some water damage, and an adjacent apartment sustained smoke and water damage, the county said.

Workers with Bueno Construction and B&P Construction who were remodeling a first-floor apartment noticed smoke and tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers, but the fire was too intense.
