The city Department of Community Services will co-host an anti-fraud conference Saturday at the Hawaii Convention Center.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Healthcare fraud, investment fraud, mail scams, identity theft, and other types of financial exploitation are on the rise and cost seniors a staggering $40 billion annually in the United States.

The conference will provide information on how to detect fraud, how people may protect themselves, and how and to whom fraud may be reported.

The keynote speaker will be Mary Twomey from the Center of Excellence in Elder Abuse and Neglect at the University of California-Irvine.

There will also be three breakout sessions to choose from, with speakers from the FBI, U.S. Postal Service, Better Business Bureau, HMSA, Hawaiian Telcom, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Department of the Attorney General, Executive Office on Aging, University of Hawaii Elder Law Project, Honolulu Police Department and Elderly Affairs Division of the City and County of Honolulu.
