Fire Department will hold open house on fire safety
The Maui Fire Department's Fire Prevention Bureau will hold an open house today for architects, engineers, contractors and others who deal with fire codes.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.
Organizers said the open house will focus on the upcoming adoption of state and county fire codes and other issues, such as fire sprinklers in residential communities and building in areas with limited or no fire protection.
The open house also will provide fire safety tips to the public and free smoke alarms.
