Radford hands Waipahu first loss in baseball

Brad Osborne hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the top of the ninth inning and Radford hung on for an 8-7 victory over Waipahu yesterday in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference baseball game at Radford.

Osborne's single up the middle scored Zach Lagier and Erik Espenshade and put the Rams ahead 8-6.

Waipahu scored one in the bottom of the inning, but fell short in suffering its first loss of the season.

Osborne finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs.

In the first game, Kaimi Haina struck out 10 over six innings and Triton Gante pitched a scoreless final inning as Waipahu beat Radford, 5-3. Gante also batted 3 for 4.

Radford moved to 7-3; Waipahu is 9-1.

Masa Kato batted 3 for 4 with a double and triple, and Curtis Kometani went 3 for 5 with a double as the visiting Tigers beat the Red Raiders.

In the second game, St. John Lessary batted 3 for 4 with a double and AJ Kubota went 3 for 3 helping Kahuku earn the split.

Ma'anoa Tau batted 3 for 4 with a double, solo homer, four runs scored and three RBIs, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, as the host Bulldogs beat the Governors. Kaimuki's Eddie Char went 4 for 4 with three doubles and he struck out 12 in a complete-game effort.

In the second game, Char batted 2 for 3 with a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs as Kaimuki completed the sweep in a game that lasted five innings.

In the second game, Kale Sumner and Alan Baldwin each had three hits as Kailua scored 10 runs in the second inning to earn the split. The Surfriders scored 10 in the second and six in the third.

Ryan Cortez batted 2 for 4, including a grand slam in a seven-run sixth inning, as visiting Na Menehune routed the Mustangs in a game that lasted six innings. Bronson Shim, Daniel Sugihara and Michael Egami drove in two runs apiece for Moanalua, which also had a six-run third.

In the second game, Miles Higa hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Tim Arakawa and Cortez drove in two runs apiece as Moanalua completed the sweep.
