NEW YORK — Hawai'i's Shane Victorino and Tyler Yates are on a list of 433 players on major league opening day rosters who will earn $1 million or more this season.
Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees tops the list at $33 million.
Victorino, a St. Anthony High alum from Wailuku, Maui, will earn $3.125 million this season and is tied for 256th on the list. He is the starting center fielder for the defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies.
Yates, a Kaua'i High and Hawai'i-Hilo alum and relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, will make $1.3 million and is tied for 389th.
The 2009 salaries were obtained by The Associated Press from management and player sources and include salaries and pro-rated shares of signing bonuses and other guaranteed income. For some players, parts of salaries that are deferred are discounted to reflect present-day values.
