WAIPAHU
Community input sought on rail transit station designs
A community workshop on two proposed Waipahu rail transit stations will be held by the city from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Waipahu Intermediate School.
The city has designated two "transit oriented development" areas, on either side of Waipahu. One is at Farrington Highway and Leoku Street. The other is at Farrington and Mokuola Street.
Community members will be asked for their input on the stations, including their color, landscaping, entryway design, exterior and interior wall finishes and seating areas
Workshops are to be held in other sections of West O'ahu later this spring.
The first 6.5-mile segment of the transit route is to run from Kapolei to Pearl Highlands. Groundbreaking is scheduled for later this year and the first leg is expected to be running by 2013.
