The Hawaii Superferry may have sailed away from the state but it's not forgotten.

Superferry was honored yesterday at the 32nd Marketer of the Year Awards luncheon at the Hawai'i Convention Center for best marketing of a new product or service.

Superferry suspended service last month after a state Supreme Court ruling said it couldn't operate before an environmental impact assessment is completed.

The award was handed out by the American Marketing Association Hawaii Chapter. Other winners:

  • Marketer of year: Royal Hawaiian Center.

  • Best nonprofit marketing: Hawaii Public Radio.

  • Best e-marketing: Marriott Hawaii.

SUIT AGAINST HECO MOVING TO ISLES

A federal judge in Dallas has ruled in favor of Hawaiian Electric Co.'s request to have a lawsuit transferred to U.S. District Court here from Texas.

The lawsuit was filed by BlueEarth Biofuels LLC in October over a now-stalled plan to jointly develop a biodiesel production facility on Maui, with BlueEarth alleging HECO and its Maui Electric Co. subsidiary had refused to work in good faith to develop the project. Also named as a defendant is Aloha Petroleum Ltd., which had separately been discussing the operation of a biodiesel fuel storage facility on Maui. HECO and Aloha had requested the case be moved here, where they operate.
