A sprinkler system today saved a Sand Island-based construction company's office building from major fire damage, according to Honolulu Fire Department officials.
Firefighters responding to a 12:17 p.m. alarm at a two-story warehouse/office building at 308 Kilua Place near the Coast Guard station found the sprinkler system had prevented the fire in a second-story office from spreading. The fire was reported under control at 12: 32 p.m.
"This is a great example of how valuable automated sprinkler systems are in holding fires in check," HFD spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha said.
