AWARDS DINNER AT INTERFAITH ALLIANCE

The Interfaith Alliance will hold its sixth annual celebration and awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway.

On hand will be Raphael Leonard, A.J. De Guzman and Scott Peters; and keynote speaker is Jerry Burris, former editorial page editor of The Honolulu Advertiser, speaking on "How Free and Fair is the Press?"

AIONA TO SPEAK AT HOPE CHAPEL

"A Partnership of Compassion for the Community," a free conference for faith leaders and others interested in networking for community service organizations, will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Hope Chapel Kaneohe.

CHURCH OFFERING DISCUSSION GROUPS

The Rev. Dr. Grant Lee will discuss "Memories and Hope" as part of the Chun Ku & Soo Yong Huang Theological Lectures, Oct. 16-19 at United Church of Christ on Judd Street.

The first, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16, will be "The Stories of your Lives in the Story of God." Then, at 9 a.m. Oct. 17, will be "Remembering and Learning from Our Stories," a morninglong workshop. At 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at the sanctuary and parish hall will be a worship service and luncheon, with a "Living Treasures Oral History Project" presentation. Finally, at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 is a special worship service.

ISLAMIC FESTIVITIES AT CRESCENT MOON

Eid al-Fitr, the Islamic celebration that ends the month of Ramadan, is expected to be held at the first sighting of the crescent moon, most likely on Wednesday.

The Muslim Association of Hawai'i will hold the morning of prayers, a special message by visiting scholar Mohamad Abdalla, and a festival with children's games at Manoa District Park; prayers begin at 8 a.m.
