TODAY'S MUST-SEE
Emmy awards, 7 p.m., ABC. The newest category — best reality-show host — is celebrated by having all five nominees share duties as Emmys host. That's neatly spread out. There's one each from ABC (Tom Bergeron), CBS (Jeff Probst), NBC (Howie Mandel), Fox (Ryan Seacrest) and cable (Heidi Klum). Piling up the most nominations were NBC's "30 Rock" (17), AMC's "Mad Men" (16) and HBO's "John Adams" (23). Still, that doesn't always translate into wins in the key categories.
TODAY'S MIGHT-SEE
"Family Guy," 9 p.m., Fox. While others avoid competing with the Emmys, Fox reruns its best cartoons. It has three "Simpsons" episodes, plus this terrific hour of "Family Guy." The regular characters step into "Star Wars" roles. The result is slick and clever.
OF NOTE
"Jimmy Kimmel's Big Night of Stars," 6 p.m., ABC. Kimmel tries to retrieve some of the pre-Emmy viewers.
"True Blood," 6 p.m., HBO. The third episode of this terrific series suddenly turns rougher. Sookie, the wide-eyed waitress, sees the cruel side of the vampire culture. Also, her brother's bigotry grows.
"Mad Men," 7 p.m., AMC. In a late switch, this show decided not to air a new episode against the Emmys, where it's up for best drama. Instead, it reruns a fairly good episode that spans the Easter season as the ad agency tries to snag a big airline account.
"The Simpsons," 7:30 p.m., Fox. In the first rerun, Lisa is Springfield's entertainer of the year. In the second, Homer's negligent mom returns. In the third, a former country star owes money and needs help.
"Masterpiece Mystery: The Ruby in the Smoke," 8 p.m., PBS. The wonderful Billie Piper plays a 19th-century teen in a dangerous adventure. It's a rerun, setting up a new movie next week.
