SYDNEY, Australia — Julius Maritim won his fourth straight Sydney Marathon on Sunday, finishing 5 minutes ahead of fellow Kenyan Benson Mbithi.
Maritim finished in 2 hours, 19 minutes, 1 second. Mbithi improved on his seventh-place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon held in March, while Sydney runner Jeremey Horne was third in temperatures around 70 degrees.
The first woman finisher was Lisa Flint of Australia, who ran a personal best of 2:47.43 in her fourth marathon.
The marathon route included the Sydney Harbour Bridge — the only day of the year it is closed to traffic.
