UH system sees spike in fall 2008 enrollment

University of Hawai'i at Manoa had a slight drop in enrollment but overall credit-enrollment numbers of UH's 10-campus system for the fall 2008 semester is at its highest level ever.

UH-Manoa's enrollment is 19,969, which is 37 fewer students than in the fall of 2007.

Enrollments at UH-Hilo, UH-West O'ahu and UH community colleges are up. UH-Hilo gained 178 students and its enrollment stands at 3,786. West O'ahu has 1,163 students, an increase of 192 from a year ago, and the community colleges' enrollment is 28,591 or a gain of 2,372 students.

Total enrollment is 53,509.

UH Vice President for Academic Planning and Policy Linda Johnsrud said, "Our 10 campuses have set goals to increase the college going rate in Hawai'i's high school graduates and their efforts are paying off."
